FAQ’s
What is fascia?
Fascia is a connective tissue that envelopes the entire body. Fascia is three dimensional with a construction similar to a spiderweb, crystalline structure or a sweater. Fascia covers the body, from head to toe, think “scuba suit”. Every muscle, fascicle, fibril, and microfibril is surrounded by fascia. Fascia covers your muscles, bones, nerves, and organs, down to the cellular level, therefore fascia informs everything underneath and within it, like a domino effect. Our fascia is deeply linked to emotions, thoughts, and traumas which is why fascial work is very healing emotionally and mentally, not just physically.

What is myo-fascial release therapy?
Myo-fascial release therapy, more commonly known as MFR, is a form of bodywork that involves gentle engagement of the fascia, while holding sustained pressure for 3 - 5 minutes at a time. Technically, MFR falls under the umbrella of massage therapy, however it is rare that someone would describe MFR as a massage. MFR doesn’t involve mediums such as lotion or oil, and it doesn’t require a lot of force from the therapist. In this day in age, many of us have been conditioned to think that massage, and other forms of bodywork, should be painful to be effective. That is a lie. Traditional massages do not treat the root cause of disfunction in the body, because they are not treating the fascia. It starts with our approach to the fascia. Your MFR therapist will start by gently engaging the fascia, this requires less than a pound of pressure from the therapist. Once this has happened the therapist will hold their sustained pressure, without movement, until they feel the fascia begin to melt, or release. Fascia responds positively to gentle pressure. If you try to punch your way into the fascia, it will not let you in.

What should I expect?
First, expect to start feeling great! Second, keep an open mind and positive attitude. Healing isn’t linear and injuries and fascial restrictions from your past can take time to resolve.
